Holy Saturday is a day inviting us to wait. We are asked to pause on the threshold between sorrow and joy, appealing to the silence to teach us. Waiting, if we allow it, can be a sacred time: a place where God can whisper reassuringly to the heart. For now, step into that quiet space and allow yourself to feel both the ache and the promise held in this most precious of pauses.
Remember especially those who are eagerly awaiting Baptism, Reception into the Church, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation. Their longing mirrors the longing of the early disciples, who waited in confusion after Jesus was laid in the tomb. They did not yet know the shape of the dawn that was on the horizon. They only knew the weight of uncertainty: something we, too often, experience in our lives.
Holy Saturday invites us to sit honestly with that uncertainty, without rushing past it. It teaches us that God is at work even when nothing seems to be happening, even when hope feels fragile. Beneath the surface, know that resurrection is already stirring.
As we keep silent vigil together, allow a quiet trust to take root within you. May those preparing for the Sacraments feel sustained by the prayers of the whole Church. And may all of us look towards the coming dawn with a renewed desire for joy, peace, and the gentle courage to begin again.
May this waiting deepen within us hope in our hearts, hope in our families, hope in our communities, and hope in our world!
